UK's largest and most celebrated saltwater Lido

Take a safe dip at Lido Jubilee Pool in Penzance and swim safely under the watchful eye of lifeguards overlooking Penzance seafront. A fabulous place to experience swimming in the sea without the dangers of the sea. It’s perfect for families and serious swimmers where the longest length is 55m.

Jubilee Pool was opened in the 1930’s and the triangular art deco seawater pool has provided a bracing swim to holidaymakers and Cornish residents for many years. The hardy jump in with just cozzies on, the less hardy go in fully covered in neoprene (head to foot!).

Another accolade of The Jubilee Pool is the launch of its warm Geothermal pool in 2020. It’s a UK first, offering you the chance to bathe in natural sea water heated to 35 degrees by their own hot water well.

Not just for swimming

The Jubilee Pool in Penzance is not just for saltwater swimming enthusiasts. Just look at the fun and exciting family entertainment (even for the four-legged members of the family!) that is organised this Autumn and Winter.

Sauna and Geothermal pool

You would be correct in thinking that the main pool of The Jubilee Pool in Penzance is on the tad chilly side as it’s seawater taken from Mount’s Bay and not heated up.

However, just because you can’t stand cold water, it is no reason not to visit this iconic place. Go and take a warm dip in their Geothermal pool open between Easter and November each year.

What is a Geothermal Pool?

A Geothermal pool is a pool that uses naturally heated water from deep, deep underground to maintain its temperature. The water is extracted from a geothermal well, the heat is removed using heat pumps, and the water is then distributed to the pool. The cooler water is then re-injected back into the ground.

The Jubilee Pool in Penzance is the first Geothermal Lido in the UK. The pool uses a Geothermal system to heat the seawater to a temperature between 30–35°C. The pool opened in 1935 and is one of the very few saltwater open-air swimming pools still open in Europe.

Need to warm up after a dip in the main pool?

You can do just that at The Jubilee Pool’s Sauna Corner.

There is so much more to planning a visit to the Lido for some family-fun on holiday. Below we list more reasons why it’s so good for your health too!

Benefits of cold water swimming:

  • Reduced inflammation and muscle pain
  • Improved mood
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Increased metabolism
  • Improved sleep
  • Improved nervous system balance

Benefits of a sauna:

  • Cardiovascular health (reducing high blood pressure and risk of strokes)

Inflatable Family Fun

Total Wipeout eat your heart out!

The Jubilee Pool knows how to bring laughter to the pool and poolside. Children and adults can enjoy hours of fun on their inflatable obstacle course in the main pool area. It offers so much more than a single trip to the beach!

The inflatable obstacle course is available during school summer holidays.

Aqua Fit anyone?

Ever fancied doing an exercise class using foam weights in a Geothermal pool? I personally can’t think of anything better. Great music, fabulous views, make new friends, have a giggle and burn calories having fun. The classes are an hour long and are designed to tone up your body with as much effort or minimal exertion as you like. Forget slogging over heavy weights in a gym, try an Aqua Fit class at The Jubilee Pool and leave with a big smile on your face.

Great food and drink with a view

Look out onto The Jubilee Pool and beyond to Mount’s Bay across to St Michael’s Mount and Newlyn. The views are absolutely breathtaking and the food and drink match the views in taste! Choose from a cold Cornish beer with fresh fish and chips to a Yallah coffee and cake. If you prefer a healthy salad to a stacked burger, the cafe at The Jubilee Pool has it all. Fancy a Sunday Roast after a fresh dip, book a table now or, if you fancy skipping the swim, just book a table for the whole family and enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon gazing out to sea enjoying great food.

We hope you can see all the reasons why a visit to The Jubilee Pool is well worth a day out!

The crew who manage The Jubilee Pool are passionate about it as it’s been their mainstay since they were young children growing up. I have visited a number of times for Swim Fit, a healthy lunch or just a cold pint of cider in warm summer sunshine listening to live music. Every time I leave, I feel relaxed, restored and looking forward to the next time.
