About 45 Back Road West

When coming to St Ives, what better place to stay than a quaint St Ives holiday cottage within moments of the best beaches in St Ives as well as the town with all its galleries, restaurants, pubs and shops. 45 Back Road West is a chocolate box of a cottage that sits almost on the corner of Porthmeor Road which draws sea and beach lovers directly to Porthmeor beach. From its front steps, you can meander into the heart of St Ives where you have practically everything on your doorstep (including the super deli/ corner shop called Norway Stores where you can buy warmed danishes to enjoy with your Cornish coffee!) This pet-friendly self-catering accommodation has two bedrooms and two bathrooms; one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. The living room and kitchen/ dining area are all open plan so soak up the inclusive and warm holiday feeling with your loved ones whatever the weather outside.

Granite steps lead up from the road to the front door of 45 Back Road West which welcomes you into its open-plan living area. A place to hang up your surf robies, coats or brollies is immediately on your left as you come in and then mooch on into the heart of the home. There is an L-shaped sofa ample enough to stretch out and relax and a folding dining table that seats four easily. The bijou kitchen has everything you need to cater for a small family but we suspect you will be trying all the St Ives restaurants instead!

On the ground floor leading off the living area is a door to the double bedroom with ensuite shower room; it comes with a wardrobe and a small dressing table. The ensuite has an enclosed shower, wash basin and WC. Please note that the double bed is cosy to the wall on two sides and it's easy to climb over the bed to get in. On the first floor, there is another bedroom that can either be a super king bed in width (it is 6'3" long) or two 3" wide single beds., it also has a chest of drawers and wardrobe so plenty of holiday clothes storage space! Next to that bedroom is the family bathroom which has a bath, shower hose, wash basin and WC. The washer/ dryer is neatly located in the eaves of the loft space, easily accessible by a door off the landing outside the bathroom.

Being a dog-friendly holiday cottage, your four-legged friends are very welcome to join you on your holidays to St Ives but they do need to be small and have impeccable manners. 45 Back Road West is quite literally a minute's walk from Porthmeor beach or St Ives Wharf. The harbour with its boats moored (and either stranded at low tide or bobbing on crystal clear and calm waters at high tide) is simply the best place to mooch and people watch. It's a place to sit and while away the time with a delicious Cornish ice cream or traditional (or vegan) pasty. While the sun glistens on the water, there is so much activity you can sit and watch while you steadily unwind and relax into holiday mode. You could of course do this with a cool Rattler or Doombar at The Sloop Inn overlooking St Ives harbour beach too!

There are 5 beaches to choose to visit in St Ives. Porthmeor, Porthgwidden, Harbour and Bamaluz beach are the closest to 45 Back Road; all within a few minutes of the cottage. Each of them offers something different to the St Ives visitor; Porthmeor is well-known for its surf and its tapas bar as well as West Beach pizzas, Porthgwidden is sheltered and also has a wonderful café perched above the beach, Bamaluz is dog-friendly all year round and can disappear with the tide but when the tide is low, its sheltered and offers turquoise sea-bathing for humans and canines and finally the harbour beach is great for people watching and trying your hand at stand-up paddle boarding as well as it being the place where pleasure boat trips operate from. Palm-tree-lined Porthminster beach is a 10-minute walk from the cottage and it too has a stupendous beach café and restaurant offering great views and even greater dining! For the active, it's a great spot to kayak from as well as try stand-up paddle boarding.

If you wanted to leave St Ives and take a day trip out, the choice of where to go is infinitely large! There are so many gorgeous places to go but some of our favourites are St Michael's Mount, Sennen Cove and Land's End coast walk, Mousehole, Porthcurno and The Minack Theatre, Tremenheere gardens as well as the National Trust gardens of Trengwainton near Penzance, a cider-tasting tour at Polgoon and a trip further afield to Kynance Cove and Penrose Estate and Porthleven. Whatever you choose to do, let us know if you need help, we have visited most places and would love to share our experiences with you.

Please note, that your parking space is at St Ives Rugby Club which is a 20-minute uphill walk. The walk may feel a big uphill for those not used to hills. However, during the peak weeks, there is a shuttle bus that runs from in front of the Tate to your parking space every 30 minutes and costs around £1.50. We appreciate it may be slightly more of a walk than a public car park but the owners kindly wish to provide a guaranteed and free parking space for their guests during their stay.
All bed linen and towels are provided but please bring your own beach towels. There is no travel cot or high chair at 45 Back Road West but there is a local company that can hire and deliver it to the cottage so please ask for details when booking.

To re-cap, 45 Back Road West is a pet-friendly holiday cottage in St Ives and sleeps up to four people in two bedrooms and it has two bathrooms. It is very close to Porthmeor Beach taking less than a minute to get to on foot. There is one allocated parking space at St Ives Rugby Club.

Perfect bolt hole for me, my wife and the dogs. Bed was huge and comfy, the kitchen all though small had everything we needed. Made the best base for a relaxing week before Christmas.

A nice cosy cottage, an ideal base for our holiday and so close to the beaches for our early morning or late evening dog walks.

Great little cottage in an excellent spot for beaches and town. Clean and very comfortable. Minor problem with a towel rail a bling and a shower head but the team at Orange Roofs were aware of two of them and informed us about them before we arrived. All were fixed efficiently. Great communication and service. First time with OR but will be back

What a find! This cottage is the best we have stayed in (15 years coming to St Ives). From the moment we opened the door it ticked all our boxes. Clean, comfortable and welcoming. Kitchen contained everything we needed for a week's holiday and decent table for times we wanted to eat in. Good size comfortable sofa, great TV for the evenings when the rain kept us in. Teenage daughter loved her bedroom with double bed and en-suite. Good sized bedroom upstairs , huge very comfy bed , loads of cupboard space. Bathroom very clean and good size. We loved our stay in this cottage. Hope we can stay here again soon. Orange Roofs are great to deal with. Love the App , makes things about the cottage easy to find out. Thanks for helping us have a fab week in St Ives! Would definitely recommend staying with Orange Roofs.

The Cottage is well-furnished with a small and well-equiped kitchen. The location is ideal with only a few minutes walk to Porthmeor or Porthgwidden beaches, or the Island. Proximity to the main harbour area with it's many shops and restaurants is only a minute or two walk. We stayed for 9 nights and had only a couple of suggestions for improvement. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in St Ives on this visit, and we would look forward to staying at 45 Back Road West again.

We spent a week at this lovely old fisherman's cottage which is within easy distance of shops, beaches and the harbour and with the local grocery store just a few metres away. 45 Back Road West has a small but cleverly adapted kitchen area at the rear of the living area which meant our 'chef' was not isolated from the rest of us.

Lovely little cottage with everything you could need. Great location right in the middle of everything, this was fab for our teenagers! We did our thing and they did theirs, perfect! Orange roofs were quite simply the total very best holiday company I have ever dealt with!! Totally brilliant. You won't be disappointed!

The house was in a great location in St Ives, good for the beaches and town centre. Parking is more than the stated 15 minutes walk and nearly all up hill, not for the unfit!! There is a bus from your car to the Tate galley , then a short flat walk to the house.

This is the perfect holiday house in St Ives. It has all the facilities we needed and in the ideal location, a short walk from the harbour and all the facilities. Superb!

The cottage is in a great central location. The access to Porthmeor Beach is fantastic. It is nicely decorated and very clean and well equipped. The photos are deceptive as they suggest the space is larger than it actually is. In the small double room it is very difficult to get round the bed. Fortunately we only used it as a single room. The kitchen is very well equipped with utensils, pans etc but being so small there is very little cupboard space if you want to shop and store your own food. Small points really, as we had a lovely holiday in this cottage.

Orange Roofs' comments:

Thank you so much for your review and we are so happy you enjoyed your stay at 45 Back Road West. We have tried our best to show the downstairs bedroom as it is and believe that the photos do actually show there is little to no room walking around the bed as the walls are very close to 2 sides of the bed. We will add a note to the description, however, to make it clearer.

Thank you isn't enough to express how grateful and overjoyed we were with the help Sam and Charlie gave us with a very last minute booking. They were amazing, five stars is not enough. The cottage, 45 Back Road West, is a fantastic cottage in a great location and has everything you would need and we were very comfortable there for our New Years break.

45 Back Road West places you right in the heart of Downalong, the area beloved by so many of the St Ives' artist community. There are four galleries, two cracking restaurants and an amazing convenience store all within 30 seconds of the cottage. It is also very conveniently located for easy walks to Porthmeor beach, home of the Tate Gallery, the harbour and the town with a rich variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. The cottage is lovely. It is well designed and fully equipped for everything needed for an enjoyable stay. The rooms are cosy and warm with comfortable sofas and beds. There are two bathrooms which is a real bonus. The upstairs bathroom has a luxurious bath when so many similar cottages have only showers. Communication with Orange Roofs was excellent throughout the whole process and their app does exactly what is required. We received the key code whilst getting supplies at the local Tesco supermarket. Using the wifi was very simple and effective.

A great little cottage. Spotlessly clean and with comfortable beds Some great paintings and pictures around the cottage Nice and central fo r the town and beaches and a great base for getting out and about the local towns which is what we normally do taking advantage of the great walks Unrelated to the property but for St ives iinformation to dog owners - we have been coming to St ives for over twenty years a couple of times a year and this is the first time we have had difficulty finding places to eat We have our little dachshund with us so normally sit outside or get take away. Also cafe pasta and Porthmeor could not decide whether they were serving food outside or not or whether we could book outside we had different answers three times and then gave up but did see people eating food outside - maybe they did not like the look of us. They do not do take away either it would seem But luckily the Lounges new restaurant came to the rescue and we ate there most evenings and we were allowed to take our dog with us inside The food and service was very good The staff really friendly Regardless of where you like to eat it would seem you would need to book about two months in advance at the moment as advised when we tried to book their outside area at Porthmeor So book early

Gorgeous property in a fantastic location, a short stroll away from Porthmeor and Harbour beach and the local shops and restaurants. The property is well maintained and hase everything you might need on holiday. A well equipped kitchen (although very small). As there are steps up to the property and no hand rail to one side of the internal steps I wouldn't recommend for people with mobility issues. Orange Roofs were fab all the way through from booking. Keeping us updated on changes due to the G7 summit and providing all the information we needed. Their app is a brilliant way to deliver all the information you need to know. Fantastic holiday - we will be back. Thank you.

This is our second booking with Orange Roofs and another great experience. From the ease with which we booked , to the friendly help which we got from Billie, to the very thoughtful starter pack which greeted us on arrival - all ensured our stay was made as hassle free and comfortable as you would wish for. 45 Back Road West is small but perfectly formed. Every inch of space has been carefully thought out ( it took us twenty minutes to find the washing machine!), with an impressive kitchen full of utensils. We were very comfortable here. The beaches, store, shops, takeaways were all easily reached on foot. And the Orange Roofs App is a godsend. This company have really got it right. Thank you Orange Roofs.
