Kiama is a fully renovated and tastefully decorated self-catering holiday cottage within a few footsteps of St Ives bustling Fore Street with shops and restaurants very close by as well as the stunning beaches. The cottage is an upside-down configuration where the bedrooms are on the ground floor and the living, kitchen and dining area are on the first floor taking full advantage of the beautiful sea views across the St Ives rooftops. You can see as far as Porthkidney beach with its glorious stretch of golden sand as well as the infamous Malakoff over St Ia’s Church spire. There is a wonderful sun trap of a private terrace area accessed via the kitchen through a charming small door or via steps from the back of the cottage. Much of the artwork in Kiama is original and there are wonderful pieces of Jo Downs glass on show too. If you are looking for a central St Ives holiday cottage which is stylishly finished, offers comfortable modern living and where everything is within a short and relatively flat walk, Kiama will most certainly deliver!
There are nine steps up to the front door of Kiama which leads you to the ground floor of the cottage. The front bedroom has twin beds and is tastefully decorated with super comfy Emma mattresses and the double bedroom is at the rear of the cottage also with a sleep-inducing Emma mattress. Both bedrooms have plenty of space to hang and fold your holiday wardrobe. The double bedroom has a small shower room with a clever little space-saving wash basin and WC. The owner has thought of every little detail with small hanging rails over the tower radiators providing a perfect place to warm up or dry clothes or towels. The double bedroom has a Smart TV so no squabbles over what to watch! This room has a door which leads across an access path to the utility room and also the fourteen steps up to the sun-drenched terrace. The rear path leads to the town centre which means you can avoid the steps into the cottage from the front or, super conveniently, wash off your sandy wetsuits after a day in the sea and on the beach using the hose pipe and hang them to dry in the utility room. The utility room also houses the washing machine, sink with hot and cold water and a drying rail. It's an ideal place to store all your beach paraphernalia, bikes and anything else you'd prefer not to take in the beautiful cottage!
At the top of the stairs, on the first floor, is the family bathroom with a space-saving sliding oak door. It has a bath with a rain head shower over, WC and a wash basin. The owners have also installed a double electric toothbrush charger which for many is a godsend if one has been forgotten when packing the holiday luggage. Also on the first floor is the wonderfully cosy living room with two large tilting windows allowing lots of natural light into the room. The sea views from each window are captivating. There is an L-shaped sofa meaning there is ample comfortable seating for four people. If it is the ambience you are looking for without the bother of lighting a wood burner, there is an electric, flame-effect glass-fronted fire which creates a relaxing glow and warmth on the chillier winter days or summer nights. There is a large Smart TV, great WiFi connection, games and a good book selection so inclement days in St Ives shouldn't mean boredom! Leading off the living area is the kitchen which is well-equipped to feed and entertain a family of four or two couples. There is a dishwasher, NEFF induction hob, NEFF oven and microwave as well as a Nespresso coffee machine. The dining table is glass topped with two stools and a built-in bench covered in, believe it or not, the same leather used in Bentley cars!
The small, hobbit-sized door leads from the kitchen, over a small bridge to the terrace where there is an outdoor dining set of foldable bistro table and chairs, exotic succulents and a sheltered area where you can sit on the bench even if it rains. There is an outside washing line too (if you fancy your luck against the seagulls!). The sun beats down on this area and so it's a perfect spot to grab some 'you' time alone with a good book. If you're too big to fit through the door (our six-foot-five Orange Roofs team member Ross can fit through it) then you can always get to the terrace outside via the steps around the back of the cottage.
The nearest beach to Kiama is St Ives Harbour being just a couple of minutes' walk away but Porthmeor, Porthgwidden and Bamaluz beaches are all within a short walk too. Porthminster beach is a gentle 8-minute stroll from the cottage's front door. There are shops, restaurants, coffee bars, Cornish delis and so much more right on your doorstep yet Kiama is ever-so-slightly set back so remains peaceful. There are places to eat a superb breakfast along the harbour front within a minute's walk from the cottage and so many incredible places to book and eat a delicious dinner in the evenings. The Barbara Hepworth Museum is just around the corner from the cottage as are other reputable galleries exhibiting modern contemporary art, sculptures, pottery and jewellery. The nearest long-stay public car park to Kiama is Barnoon which is a short walk uphill from the cottage. It is possible to pull the car up to outside the cottage to unload before finding a parking space but do be mindful that St Ives has narrow roads. St Ives train station is a 10-minute walk from the cottage or a couple of minutes taxi ride.
Please note that Kiama does not have a travel cot or high chair but these can be hired from a local company if you wish to save space in your car.
To re-cap, this gorgeous self-catering holiday cottage in St Ives has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and enjoys sea views from the living area. It sleeps four people and has an outside area which is paved and surrounded by Cornish plants.

Gorgeous house in central St Ives, 5 minutes from everywhere, but quiet even during an August stay when the streets were bustling. The house is beautifully laid out with a terraced area to eat outdoors, and a very comfy sitting room with interesting art books. Also high spec showers and two modern bathrooms. Would definitely stay there again.
