The newly renovated kitchen is stylish, practical and designed for sociable self-catering stays.

Built-in appliances include a fridge-freezer, oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave/ grill and washing machine. While a Philips pod coffee machine makes morning coffees easy, the wine fridge sets evenings off to a great start.

A built-in dining bench provides generous seating for up to eight guests, creating a comfortable place for everyone to gather for breakfast, dinner or evenings together.

Bar stools provide additional casual seating within the kitchen and help make this a particularly sociable heart of the house.

Living

The living area combines contemporary styling with the character of a traditional St Ives cottage.

Two sofas provide plenty of comfortable seating, while the wood burner adds warmth and atmosphere during cooler stays.

Slate flooring runs through the ground-floor space, complementing the newly renovated interior.

A Smart TV is provided for relaxed evenings at home after days spent exploring St Ives and its beaches.

Underfloor heating throughout the ground floor means a toasty warm ambience in the kitchen, dining or living room.

Bedrooms

Chywidden has four bedrooms arranged across the first and second floors.

On the first floor, there is a king-size bed, bedside tables and an open wardrobe. From the window, there are views towards the Island.

Also on the first floor is a bedroom with a flexible option of configuring as two single beds or a superking bed and a wardrobe, overlooking Carncrows Street. Please let Orange Roofs know your preference on booking.

On the second floor is a spacious super king-size bedroom and lovely views towards the sea and Island.

The fourth bedroom sits within the eaves of the house and has a single bed and a truckle single bed. Bespoke carpentry provides both hanging space and folded-clothes storage, a Smart TV and this room also enjoys sea views. This bedroom is better suited to children/ teenagers (or shorter adults!). Please let Orange Roofs know if the truckle bed is required.

Bathrooms

There is a convenient cloakroom on the ground floor with a WC.

The first floor has a shower room with large walk in shower, wash basin and WC.

On the second-floor is a shower room with shower, wash basin and WC.

Outdoor Space

Chywidden has a private courtyard with a table and chairs for outdoor dining. 

A hot outside shower is also provided for rinsing off sand, sea salt and sunscreen before heading indoors. Dogs benefit from a lovely warm shower and towelling too before going into the house. Also outside is a clothes line and wetsuit hanging rail which makes general holiday housekeeping easier.

It provides a useful place to enjoy breakfast, an evening drink or a relaxed meal outside while staying right in the centre of Downalong.

Dog-Friendly

Up to two well-behaved small to medium adult dogs are welcome, weighing no more than 18kg each.

Guests bringing dogs should provide their own dog beds, towels and throws, and dogs must be well behaved and well mannered within the cottage and outdoor areas.

Bamaluz Beach, which welcomes dogs throughout the year, is less than a minute away, making Chywidden particularly well suited to dog-friendly holidays in St Ives.

Close to Beach

Chywidden is exceptionally well positioned for enjoying St Ives and its beaches on foot.

Porthgwidden Beach, Porthmeor Beach and dog-friendly Bamaluz Beach are all within around a minute's walk.

Porthgwidden Beach Café is also just a minute away and is a lovely spot for morning coffee, breakfast or a meal overlooking the beach.

St Ives Harbour and Harbour Beach are around a couple of minutes away, as is Fore Street with its independent shops, restaurants, cafés and galleries.

Porthminster Beach is approximately a ten-minute stroll from the house.

Tate St Ives, the Barbara Hepworth Museum and St Ives Museum are also all within easy walking distance.

Parking

Private parking is provided directly outside Chywidden for two medium-sized cars.

An EV charging point is also available, making the property particularly convenient for guests travelling with an electric vehicle.

Having parking immediately outside is a significant advantage in the heart of St Ives and makes arrival, unloading and day trips around Cornwall much easier.

Access

Chywidden is arranged over three floors.

The newly renovated kitchen, dining and living spaces and cloakroom are on the ground floor.

A staircase leads to the first floor, where the king-size bedroom and twin bedroom are located.

A further staircase leads to the second floor, where the super king-size bedroom, a shower room and bedroom sleeping 2 (ideally older children) in the eaves are found.

A fixed stair gate is provided at the eaves bedroom.

Guests should be comfortable using stairs throughout their stay.
