About Shirehorse Barn

At Shirehorse Barn couples, friends or small families are given a very warm welcome. Inside the barn there is a spacious, open plan feel with the good-sized kitchen at one end of the room and the comfortable sofas and a wood burning stove for cosy evenings in at the other. Upstairs you may like to enjoy the countryside view from a small balcony facing over the garden.

It's location means that you can do as many day trips as you have the energy for or you can retreat and relax in the comfort of secluded countryside with little for company but perhaps a pretty cud-chewing cow or butterflies. You can reach the Lizard peninsula in a little less than 30 minutes, the nearest beach is Porthleven (which part of is dog-friendly all year round) and the nearest shops (supermarket size or small and local) are less than a mile away in Helston. If you wanted to head over to the west side and dip your toes into some of the clearest waters at Porthcurno (before or after marvelling at the Minack theatre) or trying a little retail and culinary delights in St Ives then you are never more than 45 minutes from 'home'.

Shirehorse Barn has a south facing garden so gets the the sun for most of the day, so whether it's coffee, croissants and the morning paper, or wine with olives before dinner, enjoy the warmth as you sit on the large patio. We have made sure that the garden is completely fenced so you don't have to worry about small children wandering off from the boundaries unless of course they are accomplished climbers!

This is our second visit to Shirebarn and yet again have not been disappointed. The accommodation is just wonderful everything you need ... a real home from home. A great location to get to everything , but also tucked out of the way for your own privacy.

Our family of two adults and three children visited the Shirehorse barn from the 30th of June 2018 until the 7th of July 2018. The barn is located just outside the picturesque town of Helston and is an ideal base for exploring the south coast of Cornwall. Our holiday highlights included a visit to St Ivles, Falmouth, Penzance, Porthleven, Porthcurno and Lands End where all locations are easily within 30 mins drive for the barn. We also travelled north to Padstow where we hired bikes to cycle along the old railway track that runs parallel to the camel river, and visited the Eden project near St Austell. Both attractions in the north took approx. 1 hour 15 to get too but were well worth it for a day out. The barn itself was nice and well kept. We found it the perfect quiet retreat away from our busy day to day lives and was in a good location to take our kids for days out. The barn can be a little tricky to get to and from as Newham lane is a single track road with large hedge rows on either side which connects to the busy A394 road. The merge to and from the A394 has to be taken with care as with the drive along Newham lane. Once at the entrance to the barn itself you will have to navigate a sharp climb via a gravel driveway that eventually descends into the barn itself. I did not find this a problem but I am an experienced driver and can see less experienced, less confident drivers finding this an issue. Overall we had a fantastic holiday and found Cornwall a delight to visit. Will visit again !

This is a fabulous property, very clean and well furnished. It really is home from home. Whilst it is off a country road, you really aren't to far from the main road. A visit to Portleven is recommended, a small habour area. The local pub The Habour Inn provides good quality pub food at a reasonable price. If you are into your real ales a visit to The Blue Anchor in Helston is worth a trip, they still brew their own ale on site. Kynance Cove is just wonderful. I would certainly visit again

We really enjoyed our stay at the Shirehorse Barn and couldn’t have wished for anything more. The accommodation was a true home away from home, with every little detail thought about. Our young boys fell in love with the place and were so happy to return at the end of every day, it was a true getaway for us too with space for all the family. A perfect central location for the south west, in the middle of the country where only the birds could be heard, yet close enough to amenities you never felt far away. We will definitely look to return and are recommending it to family and friends. A truly idealistic holiday home and destination (10 out of 10)

Excellent!. Great accommodation, nice quite location but so close to the lovely beaches, shops, fishing villages etc. Sam at Orange Roofs sent the best information I have had from any owner. Road work news, where to eat, what to see. Superb. If we can get our dates sorted the whole family have agreed we should stay again for 2017.

An excellent cottage! Well equipped, dog friendly, and in a really fantastic location. Twenty minutes (give or take!). to Falmouth, Penzance and St Ives. The enclosed garden was perfect, and the open plan downstairs made it feel spacious. Good wifi pleased the children as well!

Have just spent a week in this beautiful, immaculate, spacious, peaceful house. We loved our week here and wished we had booked for two weeks. The house is well equipped and has comfortable sofas and chairs in the living room and comfortable beds. We had weather of over 30 degrees but due to the 2 foot walls in the building and lovely patio doors upstairs and downstairs the house always felt fresh and airy and not hot and stuffy. The house is in a private location and with a garden of you fancy a BBQ, but yet so central to amenities and the main tourist attractions. We don't normally go the same place twice as there are so many nice places to visit but we are seriously thinking of coming back next year.

We have just enjoyed a wonderful week in this lovely holiday home. We would highly recommend staying at Shirehorse Barn, it's a lovely warm and welcoming home and very well equip! We have two young boys and normally have to pack a lot of things with us when we go away, however we found that Shirehorse Barn had everything we needed including a high chair, travel cot, children's plates and cutlery, plenty of games and much more. It was also very handy having a washing machine and a tumble dryer! The house is in a great location and we found plenty of places to visit, in fact we ran of days to visit all the places we wanted to go! We are definitely thinking about coming back next year!
