Cool tunes on the beach

Tunes in the Dunes is a popular and well-known festival held in Perranporth, right on the beach – hence the name! The festival is renowned for its laid-back atmosphere and relaxed vibes. Featuring two music stages, this year’s headliners include Busted, Jess Glynne, and Ministry of Sound.

Wellness

In addition to these well-known acts, there are also bookable wellness activities and workshops taking place throughout the days. These include guided sea swimming, sound baths, silent disco aerobics, yoga, and guided meditations. As these are bookable, some advance planning is required if you’d like to take advantage of them alongside the music.

Tickets

All ticketing information for the music and for the workshops and activities can be found on the Tunes in the Dunes website. The website is easy to navigate, and tickets are very reasonably priced, with day tickets around £45 and many workshops under £10 – less than the price of a cocktail!

It’s worth noting that strict policies are in place regarding bringing food and drink into the festival, so plan accordingly. There are numerous food and drink outlets to purchase from once inside, offering plenty of options, though this will increase your overall spending.

Sea Shanty Galore

Falmouth hosts quite an incredible spectacle with 78 local and international sea shanty groups performing in the largest free nautical-themed music and song festival in Europe. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? Frankly, it’s a busy and vibrant weekend with a fantastic street party feel. There are four main stages:

1. Seasalt Stage, Events Square
2. Sharps Stage, Church Street
3. The Greenbank Hotel
4. Seven Stars, The Moor

In addition to these four main stages, over 20 other venues host shanty groups.

Sea Shanty Festival website

The Sea Shanty music festival website must be one of the best we’ve encountered for its breadth of information and user-friendliness, featuring full listings of the shanty groups and an interactive map of the town with all the locations. There’s even a list of popular songs you can listen to and learn the words for, so you can join in!

Ships Ahoy!

Adding to the nautical atmosphere, the Falmouth Classics Regatta is also being held at the same time. The combination of classic boats and sea shanties creates a truly unique and special sailing scene. More information on the regatta visit The Falmouth Classics website

Huge Music Festival

Boardmasters Festival is the one that everyone has heard about and receives the most media attention. This annual Newquay event perfectly embodies the ‘cool’ Cornish lifestyle.

Surf and Skate

During the day, you can witness big surfing competitions at the famous Fistral Beach, along with BMX and skateboarding competitions.

Big Acts!

Back in the festival arena, several stages host crowd-pleasing headline acts, including Raye, Central Cee, and The Prodigy this year.

Fistral Surf Village

Beyond the competitions and music, there is Fistral Surf Village, showcasing your favourite brands and a wide choice of food and drink outlets to refuel. Surf lessons are available throughout the days, offering a chance to try a new skill or hone existing ones.

Environmentally conscious music festival

In line with the festival’s commitment to minimizing environmental impact, daily beach cleans are organized, and Rising Tide, a grassroots sustainability group, has a dedicated area for workshops and talks focusing on surfing and sustainability.

Tickets

Tickets for the festival are more in line with larger national music festivals; for example, a family group day ticket will cost £250+fees. The Boardmasters website offers a variety of ticket options, allowing you to find exactly what suits your needs best. If Boardmasters sounds like it’s right up your street, head to their site and grab your tickets before they sell out!

Eden Sessions

Various dates, The Eden Project nr. St Austell

Line up of music artists for Eden Sessions in Cornwall

Eden Sessions

The Eden Project doesn’t technically host a summer music festival; however, its “Eden Sessions” have become a well-established part of the music scene, and we felt they deserved a place in this blog.

Tops Acts

Eden has successfully booked some top music acts, bringing them to their iconic and unique biomes, which delivers a wonderful experience people often book repeatedly. This year’s impressive line-up includes Texas and KT Tunstall, Gary Barlow and Beverley Knight, The Script and the Deftones, Kneecap and Mike Skinner, Biffy Clyro, and Madness.

Accessible for all

The music experience is enhanced by plentiful and accessible parking, often with stewards on hand to assist. Tarmac paths lead you down through the site to the stage, set in the middle of a large, grassed area for the audience. Accessible and quieter viewing areas can be booked if needed. As it’s an outdoor event, pack a blanket to sit on the grass, especially further from the stage.

Tickets

Tickets are not cheap, with prices varying depending on the act but typically ranging between £50-£70 per ticket plus booking fees. A range of additional VIP packages are available for buy alongside your tickets, including options like drinks receptions and dinner in the Mediterranean biome. More information about what you can and cannot bring into the venue and for tickets go to Eden Sessions website
