Getting Around Hayle and Gwithian

Our guide to public transport in and from Hayle will help you get about by train, bus, taxi or even e-bike!

Travelling by car to Hayle couldn’t be easier; the A30 arrives at Loggans Moor roundabout where exiting right takes you directly into the town so no long country lanes to negotiate to arrive at your holiday cottage in Hayle.

Hayle has a small harbour as well as a tidal estuary and beaches that stretch for miles and miles so we find the best way to get around when staying in Hayle is on foot. The town has a main road running through it with the water on one side and homes, shops, restaurants and cafes on the other. There are benches that line the harbourside where you can buy a coffee or ice cream from the infamous Mr. B’s ice cream parlour and watch the quiet pace of life on the water. The estuary (Copperhouse Pool) is a haven for wildlife and a gentle walk along King George V Memorial Walk means taking time out to take in the beautiful sights and sounds throughout the seasons. Walk from the estuary towards Hayle beach and within a short stroll you will be sinking your toes into the softest of white sand and gazing at the turquoise sea.

Rail

Hayle has a train station and is a branch route from St Erth station; trains from London Paddington to Penzance will stop at St Erth and here it’s all change if you would like to arrive at Hayle, Carbis Bay, Lelant and St Ives. It takes approximately 30 minutes to go from Hayle to St Ives by train and the trains run regularly on the half hour. To see check train times and stations please refer to Great Western Railway website

There is a car park at Hayle train station which is a pay and display and there is a huge park and ride car park at St Erth Station. For more information on the cost, timetables and benefits of using the park and ride in St Erth, check out this website.

Bus

The 515 bus runs between Leedstown and Penzance and stops at Hayle, St Erth and Marazion along the way. It runs regularly and, to go from Hayle to Marazion, it takes just half an hour with no stress of parking! You can take a bus between Hayle and Truro using the T1 or T2 tinners way bus by First Bus but, be warned, it takes an hour and three-quarters! It would make a lot more sense and we recommend going by train. To reach places further west from Penzance, take the bus from Hayle to Penzance and then look for the LAND bus that will take you along the very beautiful route between Penzance and Land’s End.
