About Old Boswednack
Old Boswednack is a fabulous dog-friendly holiday cottage near Zennor. It is a converted barn a few minutes' drive or a 15-minute flat walk from Zennor and, if you fancied some fabulous food and drink at The Gurnard's Head, it would take all of a 5-minute walk across two fields! The beauty of Old Boswednack's location is that you are spoilt for choice for coastal walks along the South West Coastal Path or head to the moors and take in the historical charms of Bodrifty's Iron Age Round House settlement, Nine Maidens standing stones, Mên-an-Tol or Lanyon Quoit, Mulfra Quoit and Chun Quoit.
Old Boswednack is a delightful, beautifully furnished, single-storey, barn conversion which is a rural retreat on the west coast of Cornwall. Due to its rural location, the dark skies offer spectacular displays of stars and galaxies which means it is equally attractive by day or night. It is a granite building decorated using wonderful reclaimed materials to create a warm and welcoming charm in almost every room. There is an open plan living, dining and kitchen area offering the togetherness we all want when relaxing on holiday. In the heart of the room is a wood burner that takes the chill off any time of day as it's so easy to light. It successfully creates a glowing warmth and cosiness when all you want to do is watch a good film or read a book one evening.
There are two bedrooms where the king-size bedroom has a small en-suite shower with WC and wash basin and looks out onto the garden. The twin room is at the other end of the house just off the living area with two single beds, bespoke-made shelving and an open wardrobe. The family bathroom is between both bedrooms (just off the kitchen) with a bath and shower, wash basin and WC plus the added luxury of a heated towel rail and charms of reclaimed wood used to create some character even in the bathroom. The house has electric central heating with radiators in all rooms.
With the Spring and Summer comes the desire to open up all the doors and enjoy the enclosed garden with its paved area, colourful and fragrant borders around a manicured lawn.
The 'Shack' is a wooden summer house with subtle, calming tones designed to create a peaceful place to read, paint, do yoga, sew or simply snooze to the sounds of chirruping birds and buzzing bees. Inside you have a small kitchen area built with reclaimed pallets which houses a fridge and mini freezer, a microwave, a kettle and a sink with hot and cold water. You also have a WC with a wash basin so no need to nip to the main house!
Well-behaved and well-mannered dogs are very welcome at Old Boswednack, all we ask is that you let us know the age and breeds of your dogs (even their name so we can make friends with them too!). We also ask you to travel with their crate (if they are used to one) and dog beds and towels so they make themselves at home just as much as you.
This typical West Cornwall rural retreat is perfect for couples visiting the area with or without a dog. It's also good for families (we suspect due to the bedrooms being on either side of the living and kitchen area separated by doors and a hallway, parents may not think it suitable for younger children but they are of course welcome) and short breaks are always welcome outside of busy school holiday weeks.
Please note, that there is no phone reception at Old Boswednack so you will need to enable WiFi calling on your mobile phones. There is a landline provided for emergency calls only.
St Ives is a 15 to 20-minute drive from Old Boswednack, as is Hayle and Penzance so it is a perfect spot to enjoy peace, quiet and tranquillity whilst being so close to the hubbub of local coastal towns and harbours. St Just is a 10-minute drive where you can enjoy breakfast at the Dog and Rabbit or pick up delicious local fruit, veg and meat to create a fine meal at home. Zennor is a few minutes' drive and the wonderful Tinner's Arms serves local ale and food. The Gurnard's Head gastro pub is a minute's drive from Old Boswednack or a 5-minute stroll across a field.
To recap, Old Boswednack is a detached rural holiday cottage on the outskirts of Zennor. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It is dog-friendly and accepts well-behaved and well-mannered dogs. There is an enclosed garden within which is a summer house to enjoy also. There is parking for 2 cars outside the barn.

Old Boswednack is beautiful. Very private, warm, comfortable, lovely atmosphere and decor. Sociable living area. Really light and gorgeous garden and summer house. Good phone signal for us, wifi fast enough for zoom calls, good water pressure. Easy drive into st ives or Penzance and useful info on local walks and nearest beaches.

Old B provided the perfect retreat for our holiday, which sadly turned out to be during the worst week of the summer - lashing rain, storms and gale-force winds. Firstly we were most impressed by the helpful, clear communication from the Orange Roofs team, before, during, and at the end of our stay. Thank you. The accommodation is well laid-out and easy to keep clean. It is also very well-equipped (although egg cups would be a useful addition!). The beds and bedding are comfortable and warm, and bathrooms provide very hot (possibly too much so) water for showers and baths. The tumble dryer proved exceedingly useful each time we got drenched! Although it was too wet for us to use the annexe much, it's a wonderful space, and a reader's paradise. Reassuring too for us was the safe garden area for our dog. Most particularly useful to us was the fact that the bus stop is right outside the house, providing the best method of transport into St Ives or down towards Land's End. Despite the awful weather we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Old B.

We loved Old Boswesnack - the accommodation is smartly finished, beautifully maintained and with the extra studio, was flexible and worked really well for our family. This location is further down the coast then we had stayed previously and we absolutely will return. It is fascinating, the walks are superb, with hidden coves, lighthouses and dramatic cliffs. It was also an easy place to explore from and the village, Zennor is charming - highly recommend.

Really enjoyed staying here. Nicely presented and very clean accommodation that had all the facilities needed. Loved sitting in the garden shack in the evenings which was very relaxing and quiet. It was very easy staying here with our dog who enjoyed the garden also. The local area has two easy to access pubs and cafe in Zennor village. St Ives is only six miles away by car or a bus also stops just out on the main road which is useful as parking can be very busy in st Ives at times. Marazion and Penzance are also fairly close to drive to. Would definitely recommend this lovely place for a relaxing break. Communication from Orange roofs was excellent from start to finish. Very professional and helpful throughout..

Lovely, cosy rural hideaway within reach of St. Ives and a good base for exploring the wider Penwith Peninsula. Spotlessly clean and well equipped for self-catering, though we highly recommend booking at The Gurnard's Head for a special meal. Loved the open plan living space and the grassed area in front of the summerhouse. Communication from Orange Roofs was excellent, and we would not hesitate to stay here again.

We loved this cottage. It was perfect in size, layout and functionality for 2 adults, a baby and a dog. The only thing stopping us immediately booking again is that it's on the main road, so you can't just walk out with the dog and buggy so wasn't ideal for our needs in that way, but will definitely be back in the future when the kid is older and easier to shove in a car! Lots of lovely walks nearby if just for you or with a dog though, we just couldn't get a buggy on the coastal walks! For dog owners - the garden is fully enclosed so no need to worry there, we felt perfectly safe letting out mad hound out in the garden unattended. The owners had left firewood for the extremely cosy fire and we used this several times and it really made our day on the more blustery wet days. Quite often you find places charge stupid amounts for this pleasure so this little touch was really appreciated! The team at Orange Roofs were also really helpful with any queries we had, and even went out their way to volunteer information of local events which was lovely of them (thanks Torrie!).

We stayed at Old Boswednack in Sept 2020 and chose to return again this June. The accommodation is very well equipped and immaculately clean. The proximity to Zennors beautiful coast and the lovely Tinners Arms were also a big draw. The booking process and pre- stay information from Orange Roofs made the trip very easy. Would highly recommend this property for anyone who loves Cornwall and coast walking.

Old Boswednack is a lovely renovated piggery a mile or so out of Zennor. It's warm and cosy with plenty of space in the living area to cook, chill and chat. The garden is a lovely place to sit and chat with coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening - or stroll over the Gunnards Pub for a drink and watch the sunset. Zennor is a lovely walk along the coast away for lunch at the cafe or pub. If you are feeling like a longer walk , St Ives is 6 miles along the same coastal path. Within easy drive are a number of beatifull gardens, the pick of which for us was Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens. Surfing beaches at Sennen are about 12 miles down the coast. We couldn't fault anything and had a thoroughly enjoyable week, even though Covid restrictions meant outside dining was not available - we just had our romantic evenings in Old Boswednack.

We had a lovely stay at Old Boswednack - house was perfect for a family of four with the added bonus of the summer house which is very calming and perfect for reading, yoga or getting away from everything. Zennor is a stunning area. The coastal path is on your door step with brilliant walks and the added bonus of two fab pubs down the road. We loved our trip to St Ives, Minack Theatre and Cape Cornwall. Sam & Ross were super helpful and responsive and run a first class service for their guests.

We'd originally booked Old Boswednack for a 3 day stay in March but had to cancel due to the Covid lockdown, so we were delighted to be able to get whole week in July instead The property was very clean and well presented and the garden areas were beautifully planted and had sun all through the day. Off street parking a real bonus. Location excellent for walking. Tinners Arms in Zennor 20 mins walk across the fields and the Gurnards Head likewise in the other direction but sadly it only opened the day we left. Orange roofs were great to deal with and they quickly sorted a failed light. We will return!

We stayed here for our mini moon and it was perfect! The home is so well done (we are very picky so trust me when I say it's lovely!!!) and it has absolutely everything you'd need. Everything is thought of, you'd be able to stay here forever!!! The location is ideal, it's picturesque but also an easy drive to St Ives, Sennen, Lands End etc. You can also do an amazing coastal walk straight from the front door. The garden is perfect, I loved that it was secure for our pup which is a MASSIVE tick for all dog owners as you can open either one of the doors and know they'll be safe. Huge thank you to the Old B for being ideal for a costal Cornwall escape, 5*!
