About Penhallow
Penhallow is a luxury three-bedroom holiday cottage in St Ives, tucked away behind Mount Zion just moments from St Ives Harbour, Fore Street and the town’s beaches. Sleeping up to six guests, this beautifully renovated traditional fisherman’s cottage has two bathrooms, a wood burner, a private courtyard and allocated parking on Westward Road. Arranged over three floors, Penhallow combines characterful features with stylish contemporary interiors and a well-equipped kitchen. With Harbour Beach less than a minute away and Porthmeor Beach around five minutes on foot, it is an ideal self-catering cottage for families, couples or friends wanting to stay in central St Ives.
Kitchen & Dining
The stylish kitchen sits beyond the living area and has been thoughtfully designed to make the most of the available space.
Marble worktops provide plenty of room for preparing meals, while facilities include a fridge-freezer, oven and grill, built-in microwave, dishwasher, kettle and toaster. A washer-dryer is also located within the kitchen.
A seating area beside the window provides a lovely spot to pause with a morning coffee while enjoying a glimpse towards St Ives Harbour.
Living
The open-plan living area is on the entrance level of the cottage and combines modern coastal styling with the warmth and character of a traditional St Ives home.
A comfortable sofa and large armchair provide plenty of space to relax, while the wood burner creates a particularly cosy atmosphere during autumn and winter stays.
There is also a Smart TV for evenings at home after a day exploring the beaches, galleries and town.
Bedrooms
Penhallow has three bedrooms arranged across the ground and second floors.
A staircase leads down from the kitchen to the ground-floor king-size bedroom. This spacious room has been individually finished and has its own en-suite shower room.
On the second floor is another king-size bedroom with storage and a television.
The third bedroom is a twin room with two single beds and comfortable contemporary furnishings.
Please note that there are small changes in level on the second-floor landing, including a step up into the bedroom areas.
Bathrooms
The cottage has two bathrooms.
The ground-floor king-size bedroom has its own en-suite shower room, which includes a characterful upcycled ship's porthole mirror.
The family bathroom is on the second floor and has a freestanding bath, separate shower, wash basin and WC.
There is a step up to the family bathroom from the landing.
Outdoor Space
Penhallow has a small private courtyard accessed across the path passing the front door.
It is a pleasant place to sit in the sunshine and also provides useful space for drying wet clothing and storing beach equipment such as bodyboards, buckets and spades.
The cottage is tucked away along a passageway behind Mount Zion, so there is relatively little passing footfall despite its very central location.
Close to Beach
St Ives Harbour Beach is less than a minute's walk from Penhallow, making the cottage exceptionally convenient for beach days and exploring the waterfront.
Porthmeor Beach can be reached in around five minutes on foot, while Fore Street and its independent shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants are also just moments away.
The Wharf, Smeaton's Pier and the wider Downalong area are all within easy walking distance, putting guests right in the heart of St Ives while the cottage itself remains tucked away from the busiest pedestrian routes.
Parking
Guests have use of one allocated parking space on Westward Road, approximately a five to eight-minute walk from the cottage.
Once parked, the central location makes it easy to explore St Ives, its beaches and harbourfront entirely on foot.
Access
Penhallow is a traditional St Ives cottage arranged over three floors.
The front door opens onto the entrance level, where the living room and kitchen are located.
A staircase from the kitchen leads down to the ground-floor king-size bedroom and en-suite shower room.
A separate staircase leads from the living area to the second floor, where the second king-size bedroom, twin bedroom and family bathroom are located.
There are also individual steps up from the second-floor landing into the bedroom and bathroom areas, so guests should be comfortable using stairs and changes in level during their stay.

We are a family of 5 and had a great time staying in Penhallow. The property is comfortable, clean, beautifully furnished and decorated and the location is excellent! We have been visiting St Ives for 20 years and it never fails to disappoint.

We very much enjoyed our stay in Penhallow. We were staying with our daughter and her fiance, and there was plenty of room and space for privacy, both king-sized rooms being of a good size and on different floors, and both bathrooms were of a high quality. The kitchen in Penhallow is also very well equipped, with a good selection of pans, crockery and utensils, and a double oven. The decor throughout is tasteful and the furniture comfortable. The little courtyard garden also gets the sun for a few hours: we had a lovely time reading there in the sun one early afternoon. Penhallow cottage is central, while being tucked away through alleys and an archway; you have the sense of being in a historic building, while enjoying all modern comforts. It is well situated for the various beaches and everything else, including the well-stocked Norway stores grocery shop (established 1897). Orange Roofs is an excellent company: local, friendly and quick to answer the phone and respond to all questions we had; we look forward to booking with them again in the future.

This cottage is adorable, my husband and I were absolutely over the moon with the location, the interior decoration and most of all a wonderful card and bottle of wine to help us celebrate my husband's birthday and our wedding anniversary. We both had a super time in St Ives and this cottage was the icing on the cake …. Beautiful!

Penhallow is a perfect holiday home. The lower ground bedroom with ensuite and two upstairs good size bedrooms are perfect for families or a friend group. Location is brilliant just along from the Sloop Inn. Perfect for beach or local restaurants.

Orange Roofs were a fantastic company to deal with, very responsive and super helpful and friendly. Have already rebooked a different property through them for next year. The welcome pack was much appreciated too! Point of note, my daughter has mobility issues and the cobbled slope up to the tunnel was very steep with no rails and there is no rail on the steps up to the property. Maybe something to be mindful of if you have a pushchair or any mobility issues. This aside, the location is perfect, particularly for breakfast baps from Mor and coffee from Mount Zion coffee!

A great location to stay for the busy half term week tucked away behind the harbour very close to the centre, beaches and restaurants. Penhallow is well equipped and comfortable and it was nice to have the outside sitting area.

We along with two friends have just spent a wonderful five days in Penhallow Cottage The property was everything we could wish for, comfortable, well maintained and very clean and the location was ideal. Its position just off the harbour meant we could get to all St Ives amenities, beaches, restaurants, bars, shops etc easily. Having a dedicated parking space, albeit a 10 to 15 minute walk away, takes the stress out of having to drive round the car parks looking for a space. It was also no problem unloading and loading my car near the steps to Zion Hill. The cottage was well furnished and equipped with quality appliances that were easy to use. The rooms were of a good size to be both comfortable and cosy without being cramped. Communication with Orange Roof Staff was 5 star at all times. We wouldn't hesitate to return here and recommend it to our friends and family.

We have been visiting St Ives for a long time and this is one of the best properties we have stayed in. A wonderful cottage, clean and exactly as described, with the cosy comfort of the traditional fishing cottages but with a modern, luxury twist. The cottage is superbly equipped (a lovely welcome package of milk, bread, eggs and biscuits was also provided), a good size (for 5 of us) and in a perfect location, central to the harbour, shops and other beaches but tucked away in a quiet area with few passers-by. The private courtyard is a great space to sit outside and very helpful to place wet clothes to dry / store beach items. Communication from Orange Roofs was excellent and they even let us know the cottage was available for early check in which was a lovely surprise. We would recommend using Island car park for both long stay parking if needed and to unload as it is nearby the property. We loved our stay at Penhallow, will definitely return and would highly recommend to others looking to stay in St Ives.

A wonderful property! The location was perfect - literally a short stroll to the harbour side by the Sloop Inn. We've been returning to St Ives for around 20 years and this is one of our fave properties. We stayed with our daughter 21 and 17 they had the top bedrooms and we had the basement with ensuite. The way the property is laid out is perfect. Very clean, nice finishes and all lovely!

Superb location, beautifully appointed and every detail was thought through. Penhallow felt more like a home than a holiday rental due to its attractive fixtures and decor. The little outside terrace and parking were the icing on the cake.

A beautiful, cosy and well furnished cottage. Comfortably sleeps 6 adults or in our case, 4 adults and 2 children. Lovely modern en suite bathrooms and kitchen. Perfect location for access to high street and beach front. Would highly recommend using island car park for both long stay parking and a close enough location for unloading. Would definitely consider returning next spring.

We had a great week at Penhallow over Christmas with the whole family (parents, grandparents and kids). The cottage is kitted out really well with modern appliances and it was nicely decorated for Christmas. Even though it is an old fisherman's cottage, it didn't feel cramped for 6 staying, including 4 adults. The kitchen table extends as well meaning we could have Christmas lunch with plenty of space. Its location is really convenient, right in the heart of St Ives and meant my parents could walk around town without too many steel hills to walk up or down. It is a short walk to the Mermaid which is one of our favourite restaurants. Unloading from the car on the Wharf wasn't too much of a problem either. Would definitely recommend.

Communication was excellent and they even let us know the cottage was available early which was a lovely touch. Comfortable, stylish, clean and cosy. A great way to explore the area especially as we didnt have a car but there was so much to do and explore. The cottage is situated right in the heart of the town …perfect! Would definitely stay there again! Thank you.

We had the most wonderful week staying in Penhallow. The cottage exceeded our expectations and was immaculate. The cottage is in the heart of St Ives but as it's tucked back from the harbour, it was very quiet. We can not wait to revisit.

Another fantastic stay with a property from the ever
reliable and impressive Orange Roofs. Penhallow is our 4th stay
with Orange Roofs and our 3rd in the same square on Mount Zion. The
location being right on the harbour is incredible and perfect for a
young family for easy access to the beach, ice cream shop and the
Sloop Inn for a well earned pint of Korev to end the
day.
The house itself is to a very high standard and finished
brilliantly in a cosy, modern and clean style. The downstairs
master bedroom was particularly welcoming instead of being up high
where in St Ives you can be woken up early by the morning chorus of
the resident gulls. Being on the ground floor (you enter the
property on the 1st floor), this meant we had the best sleep we've
had in St Ives.
The private garden at the front of the property (which is
actually the back of the neighbouring properties and therefore very
well secluded) was incredibly handy for all our beach equipment
too.
The only downer was that Mount Zion Coffee was closed due to
getting a new roof meaning I couldn't wake to my morning Ava'Banana
but it just means we'll have to return again next year.

Fab property in a brilliant location. Close to all of the town beaches, as well as restaurants/bars for food & shops etc. Really well equipped & best of all the master bedroom being in the cellar was so quiet!! No seagulls waking us up. We'll definitely be back.

Penhallow is in an ideal position being in the centre of St Ives but in a quiet pathway/alley with little or no passers-by which makes it very peaceful. The cottage has been beautifully renovated and is extremely comfortable and well fitted out with all that you would need for a superb stay. The little terrace was great for an evening drink or barbeque. We had a week but wish it had been more. My wife and I came with our son and 2 year old grandson. We were so close to the Harbour, Porthgwidden and Porthmeor beaches as well as the shops, restaurants and cafes it was easy to leave the car and walk everywhere. We will most certainly be back with our daughter, son in law and 2 grandchildren who are 7 and 5 years old. The three bedrooms and two bathrooms make an ideal cottage for a stay with family or friends. I could not recommend this more!

Brilliant. Penhallow was in the perfect spot for us, literally 30 seconds from the beach (grandkids with us). It was bright, clean, and well fitted out with everything we'd need. Lovely rooms, and very comfortable beds! And it was quiet, despite being so close to the beach area. When we go back to St Ives, it'll no doubt be the first place we look to for our stay.

We have just returned from a week in Penhallow, through Orange Roofs, the house was beautiful and was in a perfect location. They had supplied everything we could possible need to make our stay perfect. Orange Roofs were amazing as usual, form the messages we received on arrival, right through to our departure date. We have been coming to St Ives for years now, and this was one of the nicest houses so far, we would highly recommend it,.

beautiful property, superbly considered. the rooms are well proportioned and all amenities are extraordinarily well appointed…NOTHING is 'just for renters', rather every appliance and piece of kit is what you would choose for yourself..be it the oven, cooktop, dishwasher, tapware or even the carving knives… such generosity of spirit. we adored penhallow and being part of the warm open st ives community.

Penhallow is the quintessential Cornish cottage with a little bit of glam thrown in. It's been the perfect warm and cosy retreat for us in some pretty stormy weather! So much care and attention has been lavished on this little retreat and I'm certain it won't disappoint! Great stay in a great place. One big thank you!

Beautifully furnished cottage ensuring a comfortable ,relaxing holiday. We loved everything about our stay at Penhallow. The cottage was beautifully furnished to provide the maximum comfort for our stay. My daughters loved the basement bedroom and very much regarded it as their 'girl cave'. It is in an ideal position for the harbour, shops and restaurants and the proximity of different beaches. I would have no hesitation recommending Penhallow to other holiday makers. We can't wait to book again!

We stayed at Penhallow in St Ives last week, what a lovely cosy , luxurious, clean , cottage it was. just off the harbour tucked away, a few minutes walk to so many restaurants and pubs. Lovely house, really well kept and nicely decorated. Steps there a bit awkward checking in and out but not a massive issue. Parking on the harbour is interesting but actually I always founds a space. St ivies itself it just absolutely packed, the main streets full of people almost all the time. Perhaps a sign of the times but it wasn't relaxing to be there at all. When you get on the beach it's great, lovely beaches close by. Highlights were the Tate and also a beach further out for surfing lessons NT Gwithian it was a bit more relaxing. Minak theatre worth booking to look around and the beach nearby too again, more relaxed, and absolutely stunning. We managed to eat out twice and would recommend Porthminster kitchen and the Searooms very highly. Even though it's so busy the people of at Ives were very welcoming. The house is great but I'd skip st Ives for a while.

Discreetly tucked away yet right in the heart of St Ives Harbour, we found Penhallow to be the perfect base for our week long stay. Easily accommodated a family of 5, all mod cons and very tastefully furnished and decorated - we had a fantastic trip. Highly recommend!

We stayed at Penhallow for the 2nd week of our Cornwall holiday. The house has a fantastic location, literally a stone's throw from the harbour. Comfort-wise, the house is perfect. We knew that there was going to be some renovation done before we arrived but we didn't realise they would be doing the entire house so it was a lovely surprise! It's a 3 story house that has been renovated and refurnished from top to bottom. New kitchen, new bathroom, new carpets, new furniture and newly decorated. The standard is very high and the furnishings, fixtures and fittings are lovely. The owner has clearly put a lot of effort in and obviously has a keen eye for detail. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, all brand new of course! There are 3 TVs, excellent wi-fi and if Alexa is your thing, then there's two of those as well. All in we had a great time and very much enjoyed staying at Penhallow.

We loved this cottage. We had 4 teenage girls with my husband and I. There was plenty of room. The bedroom on the lower floor has its own on suite which was like a second master. The two other bedrooms on the top floor were lovely as well. The mattresses were very comfortable. The kitchen had plenty of room with seating for 6. It was also fully stocked with kitchenware and glasses. What we loved most about the cottage was the location. We were 50 yards from the beach yet not on the beaten path. We had our own patio to enjoy as well. We will definitely be back!
