About Plane Sailing

Plane Sailing is your quintessentially Cornish holiday cottage in St Ives. Tucked away on Virgin Street, you are surrounded by St Ives’ old cobbled streets and just moments from the harbour, beaches, shops, restaurants, bars, delis and even Tarquin’s gin school! These are just some of the many perks of being in the heart of St Ives. Being in the heart of St Ives means it’s traffic-free and the happy hustle and bustle of holiday-makers walking around the town will be what you see from your living room and bedroom windows. Out of season,it is a romantic place to be where it's a joy to stroll the cobbled lanes window-shopping.

This sweet little dog-friendly holiday cottage is well placed to reach any of St Ives beaches by a short stroll but the closest is Porthmeor Beach which is at the end of The Digey just a few minutes away. The infamous ‘little green door’ of St Ives is opposite Plane Sailing and has to be one of the most photographed doors in history! Check out our St Ives Area Guide for more fun facts on this ancient door. When approaching the property, you’ll feel swept up in the history of St Ives. As you take the short set of granite steps to the front door, you’re greeted by a sweet porthole front door and then straight into the open-plan kitchen, living room, and dining area.

The kitchen is neat and built for purpose, giving you all you need for four guests whilst in your self-catering cottage in St Ives. Whether it's fresh croissants from around the corner or making some freshly caught seafood, you'll be able to whip up a perfect storm! The kitchen has all the integrated appliances needed to make you feel at home. This includes a washer/dryer machine, dishwasher, compact refrigerator with a neat built-in freezer section on the top, oven/grill, hob, microwave and kettle. If you don't fancy taking a very short stroll to get freshly made coffee from one of the many cafes around you, there is a cafetière for you to brew a fresh pot of coffee in the morning! The living and dining room areas offer comfortable and cosy seating for four. The living room has a Smart TV, perfect for after those long days at the beach.

Upstairs is where you'll find the bathroom and two bedrooms, but not before you pass the beautiful stained glass window that oozes colour into the hallway and boasts a stream of natural light. The bathroom is spacious with a separate bath and shower as well as WC and washbasin. There is a double bedroom that looks over where The Digey meets Fore Street and has sea views over to Godrevy Lighthouse. It has a spacious built-in wardrobe for the holiday change of clothes, a chest of drawers, a TV and bedside tables with lamps. The twin bedroom has two single beds, bedside tables, a chest of drawers, a cupboard for hanging space and a TV.

If you're familiar with St Ives, you'll know that Virgin Street is one of the oldest parts of the town in Downalong. Plane Sailing in fact overlooks St Ives' infamous 'green door', a door that has stood on Virgin Street for well over two hundred years old. You are also just a stone's throw from another much-loved landmark in the town, 'St Ives Bakery'! How better to start your day than waking up and fetching freshly baked bread and pastries in the morning, a homemade Cornish pasty for lunch and freshly baked scones for an afternoon cream tea!? If you don't feel like cooking in your self-catering holiday cottage, you are just a few steps from 'Source Kitchen' another favourite in St Ives. This deli and kitchen serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, maximising all the local produce available in Cornwall. You can also pick up some of your own delicious supplies from their deli section.

Not only do you have a plethora of cafes, bakeries and shops on your doorsteps, but you are also no more than a few minutes from St Ives' white sand beaches. The harbour front and beach are just a short walk away and here you'll find even more bars and restaurants to explore. Or, if you fancy a spot for surfing, the Blue Flag awarded Porthmeor Beach is just around the corner. Porthmeor is host to two favourite restaurants in town, 'Porthmeor Beach Café' and its sister restaurant 'Porthmeor West' as well as a takeaway and public loos - all you need for a day at the beach!

Up to two well-behaved and well-mannered small dogs are very welcome at Plane Sailing, all we ask is that you let us know the age and breeds of your dogs (even their name so we can make friends with them too!). We also ask you to travel with their crate (if they are used to one) and dog beds and towels so they make themselves at home just as much as you. Remember they aren't allowed in bedrooms or on furniture in their holiday home even if they're allowed at home!

Plane Sailing has an allocated parking space for you to use at the St Ives Rugby Club, approximately a 20-minute uphill walk away from the property. The walk may feel a big uphill for those not used to hills. In the peak weeks in St Ives, there is a shuttle bus that runs from in front of the Tate to your parking space every 30 minutes and costs around £1.50. We appreciate it may be slightly more of a walk than a public car park but the owners kindly wish to provide a guaranteed and free parking space for their guests during their stay.

** 22/11/24 - Please note due to Wales and West upgrading gas pipes throughout St Ives, there will be road closures throughout the town in January to early February. From 02/01/25 - 21/02/25 Fish Street and St Peters Street will be closed, from 06/01/25 - 21/02/25 Back Road East will be closed and from 27/01/25 - 21/02/25 Back Road West. There will still be car access along Fore Street. Please get in contact with a member of the Orange Roofs team before booking if you have any questions or concerns.**

To re-cap, Plane Sailing is a wonderful holiday cottage in St Ives with sea views from the master bedroom. It also has a twin bedroom and both bedrooms look over the cobbled lanes of The Digey and Fore Street in the very heart of the town centre. It has an allocated parking space for one car at St Ives Rugby Club. There is one family bathroom with bath and separate shower. The cottage accepts up to two well-behaved and well-mannered small dogs.

This was our second stay and we loved Plane Sailing as much this time as when we first visited. Beautiful accommodation that has everything you need in a great location.

We have just had a fabulous two weeks at Plane Sailing. From the moment we entered the house until we left we felt at home. On arrival the house was beautifully clean and tidy. To our surprise and delight there were delights in the fridge and the kitchen. We were sad to leave. St Ives was great but the memory we take away with us is our stay at Plane Sailing. Oh, and the folks at Plane Sailing (OR comment: Referencing Orange Roofs team in St Ives, not at the property) were attentive to any little need, like delivering a corkscrew when we couldn't find one. Knowing you were around and at the end of a phone gave us great security. Thank you.

Plane sailing is a beautiful property. It's a fisherman's cottage. Very beautifully decorated and well equipped. It's very close to the beaches & main shopping street in St Ives. I stayed there for a week with a friend & my dog. The only downside to being close to the shopping area is the noise. The windows are traditional single glaze sash. They let in all of the noise day/night. Lots of early morning wake ups & late night/early hours noises/chatter.

Overall a fantastic appt to stay at. Great location just a couple of minutes from beach and bars. Appt is well appointed with everything you could need and spotlessly clean. Although it comes with a parking space it's not ideal as it's miles away , didn't bother us too much as we didn't use the car daily but if you plan to need the car every day I think it would be very annoying given the distance from appt to car park space

My partner and myself stayed in Plane Sailing, we had previously booked a different accommodation which was withdrawn from the site, however OR team were fantastic at swapping this over seemlessly for us. Plane sailing is a beautiful quintessential St Ives fishermans cottage, it has been modernised impeccably throughout every inch possible whilst keeping its charm.
We are a young couple but still skeptical about its central location due to noise from the high street which it is literally on....we went at the end of September and really enjoyed the charm of hearing chatter and the bakery delivery at 6am however I think this could be an issue for light sleepers in the summer.
The welcome pack of milk, butter and biscuits was a lovely touch. I'm just upset I didn't see the washing machine sooner as would have done my washing before going home to save me a job!
The neighbours are permanent residents and we're very friendly. This property was at the top of our price bracket but we did enjoy every second and it was worth it.
St Ives has taken my breath away and we'll absolutely book with Orange Roofs again.

The cottage was very clean, spacious, well equipped and lovely and light, good quality fixtures and fittings. There was everything I provided for a relaxing stay.
This was our first time in St Ives and chose the cottage for proximity to beaches, restaurants etc, however we did not take into consideration the noise which would be generated from early morning deliveries, particularly to the bakery, we were woken at around 6:00am everyday, also disturbed in the early hours by people returning to their accommodation.
Orange Roofs were excellent and made the whole process very easy and stress free.

Ideally located in a fantastic central position. Warm, clean and comfortable. We had everything we needed, it was very well equipped. Cosy and homely space, good shower & a lovely bath. Our only slight grumble was how noisy it was at night as the windows are single glazed and the street outside fairly busy after pubs exodus.

Arrived Saturday 10th September, followed the guidance that was supplied which helped considerably. Accommodation was clean upon arrival, the small welcome pack which included cake was lovely. Our only negative comment would be the sloping double bed, this did cause a little discomfort as it felt as though you was about to fall out of bed, not a major concern, however I would suggest that this does get rectified by sorting the additional height required to level , obviously the floor is the problem due to age of property, we do understand this. Overall a great stay lovely food, cocktail bars and loads of shopping for everyone Beaches are excellent. Car parking arrangement at St Ives rugby club is a massive plus, bus to the club every 30 minutes, no hassle at all, excellent value for money at £2.50 each return to the Tate Loved it, Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. My family and I stayed in plane sailing for 7 nights. It's a lovely little place in a fantastic location. Although the parking for the property is located at the ruby club this was no bother and is only a short walk away from the property. We also made use of the bus service which was brilliant with shopping bags. The property had almost everything we needed. We found that some of the kitchen utensils were not up to scratch and could do with renewing such as the knives were very blunt and the handheld whisk handle was broken. There were also no oven gloves which are really a must if you are cooking for a family of four. Although the property is in a great location in amongst the hussle and bustle of St Ives Town we really didn't realise just how loud it would be at night with regards to drunk people, Which seemed to hang around on the bakery corner. Most evenings we were kept awake until 3am. Other than the above lovely little property.

Plane Ceiling is the perfect cosy cottage in a great location. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided and the arrival package of biscuits, cake, tea etc was really welcome! We would highly recommend a stay here due to the location - just steps from harbour beach and the main shopping street. Orange Roofs are also very effective to deal with. Great communication.

We have just returned from a week at Plane Sailing, this is my first time using Orange Roofs having used other companies for our twice a year holidays to St Ives, they have been fantastic. Very impressed with every step of the process. The cottage is well appointed in a great location, beautiful decor & very quiet despite being in the centre of St Ives. I highly recommend this cottage & Orange Roofs

We absolutely loved Plane Sailing! The cottage is beautifully kitted out, with thought given for our every need, comfortable and welcoming. Wonderful to be in the heart of St Ives, yet tucked away off the main street, bakery just a few steps from the front door(!), and all less than two minutes from the harbour. The rooms are full of sunshine and there's even a sea view in one of the bedrooms! Real character throughout, and with a superbly equipped bathroom and comfortable furniture downstairs. We were also impressed with how easy it was to access any information we needed on the Orange Roofs app. A massive thank you to the team! We have loved our stay and hope to return one day in the future

Beautiful accommodation very well decorated , perfect location. The property was clean and tidy. Orange roofs kept in contact with us, also txt to allow early access to the property which was fantastic after a long journey. There was a welcome pack waiting with cakes, eggs, butter and milk which was very thoughtful. I would highly recommend a property from Orange Roofs and will certainly book with them for our next St.Ives trip. Thank you.
