About Porthia

Fancy being within walking distance of a beach and the stunning South West coastal path? Perhaps you'd like to be slightly secluded and set back from the general hubbub of holiday traffic. What would top it off is if you had a large terrace with sea views and the evening sun while listening to a stream bubbling at the bottom of your garden and the birds offering happy accompanying sounds. Porthia has it all and more!

A modern, cedar wood-clad luxury holiday home in Carbis Bay with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, parking for two cars (one being in a secure garage) and an open, light, welcoming feel inviting families or couples to come, relax and enjoy Carbis Bay and St Ives. With the convenience of being just a matter of thirty metres from the front door, you have the sole use of a garage during your stay and you can park a second car in front of the garage doors too. That will get your holiday off to a good start, no need to worry about where to put your car. Once inside Porthia, you will love the colours and the tranquillity that welcomes you. The open plan kitchen, dining and living area feels inclusive and so, as a family or just holidaying as a couple, you will always feel close to your loved ones. The kitchen is equipped as if it were your home so cooking for up to five people is no problem. There are all the mod cons; dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, even a Nespresso coffee machine to make life go a little easier and there is a large dining table to seat you all around whatever meal time it is. The living room has a generous and super-comfy sofa that hugs a wood burner for the chillier days or if you just fancy some extra romance, cuddle up close on the made-for-two love seat. What we love are the trifold doors that offer the outside/ in feel when entirely opened up. Your living space extends to the terrace with furniture for alfresco dining or simply whiling away warm days in the mottled shade of the trees.

There are a few areas to the outside space that you can gravitate to depending on the time of day and where the sun is in the sky. The fact is you have options, and you can have your morning coffee with the sun on your face and your evening glass of something chilled with the sun on your neck while you enjoy the sea views, each in areas of privacy and sheltered from any brisk breezes. There are established trees that border the terraced areas so there are plenty of spots to stay out of the midday sun.

Upstairs to Porthia there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The first bedroom sleeps one person in a 4ft bed, from this room you can see the sea. The second bedroom has a king-size bed to sleep two people and finally the third bedroom has a king-size bed, TV and an ensuite shower and a wash basin (please note, there is no WC in the ensuite). The family bathroom has a large double shower, wash basin and WC. There are sea views from the landing area looking over towards Godrevy Lighthouse and beyond. Downstairs you'll find a cloakroom with a WC and wash basin - we all like to have two loos, don't we?!

There is high-speed broadband WiFi and a large Smart TV so you are free to log in to your favourite Apps so as not to miss out on your chosen shows. Porthia does not have a travel cot or high chair but these can be hired separately from a local firm that can deliver straight to the holiday home for you.

Porthia is set back from St Ives Road which is the main road into St Ives through Carbis Bay. There is a small garden gate that leads downhill from Porthia onto a footpath where you cross the main road and follow your nose downhill to Carbis Bay Beach. What goes down must come back up so be prepared for the hill walk up! St Ives is a 20-minute walk away or a few minutes drive. St Ives can be walked either on the pavement next to the main road or via the coastal path that ends up at Porthminster Beach. For some ideas on where to eat, things to do and places to visit in Carbis Bay, St Ives and further afield, check out our Area Guides online.

If you are planning on a holiday with extended family, Pencroft next door to Porthia is also available to book via Orange Roofs.

To recap, Porthia is a detached self-catering accommodation in Carbis Bay with its own garden, garage and parking. It has three bedrooms and sleeps five people. It has an en-suite shower room (minus WC) to the master bedroom and an additional large shower room as well as a ground floor cloakroom with WC. Porthia has a wood burner for those chilly days or evenings.

Really enjoyed our stay here. The house is just as stylish as it looks in the photos, and light, airy and comfortable. Beautiful area to stay in with loads to do - we really didn't want to go home.

We had a great 7 night stay at Porthia. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and set out to a very high standard. The location was perfect, close to the beach, train station and bus route. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and recommend to friends.

We had a lovely time at Porthia. The house is spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. The balcony is a great spot for coffees and drinks, with a private path leading down to the road and then a walkway across the road down to the beach. We felt very much at home.

We really enjoyed our stay at Porthia. The house was spacious and clean. We loved the open plan layout and the fact we could all spread out. We had some pretty stormy weather during our stay but the house was a haven where we could set up jigsaws and board games on the big dining room table and watch the storm rage outside through the bifold doors whilst feeling warm and cosy. Our only criticism was the trek to the train station. We are so feeble, but the steep decent was not for the feint-hearted. But it's only £1 to go to St Ives and takes 10 minutes so it was very convenient and we were happy not to be the stressful game of finding parking in St Ives which we could see is difficult. We were recommended that if you do drive there you should use the Better Leisure Centre car park and get the bus down to the bay which felt just as much effort as getting the train! Carbis Bay itself was very beautiful. We ate in the Beach Club restaurant which was a bit too fancy for us but has great views of the bay. We also ate in The Cornish Arms up the road which was more simple. But we really enjoyed the Talay Thai restaurant in St Ives the most. My daughter announced Porthia to be the BEST holiday house we've ever stayed in!

Fantastic house, spotlessly clean and fresh on arrival. We found the kitchen was well equipped for our needs as we like to cook, and there was a welcome pack.
Great to chill out in the peace and quiet, glass in hand, with just the sound of the stream running down the hill on the back decking area.
Great location for us as we don't mind a walk into St Ives or Hayle along the coastal path.
But there is a bus stop at the bottom of the drive and the railway station is only a five mins stroll down hill, for onward transit to the surrounding area.
The Tesco supermarket is a 2 minute drive for the "big shop" and a short walk to the Gannet House Sports Bar for a swift one, or two, with a sea view.
We highly recommend a stay at Porthia.

The accommodation was great. Plenty of space for our group of five adults, very comfortable and clean. Kitchen had everything we needed and provided lots of work space - better than our own! Location was good - proximity to bus/rail service meant we didn't need to drive all week. Loved being so close to the beach - walk down to beach was lovely; return trip was good exercise! Cooler autumn weather meant we didn't use the outdoor space much so weren't bothered by traffic noise.

Well appointed and spacious house with everything we needed. The welcome goodie bag was much appreciated! The location is good but be prepared to walk up a very steep hill from the beach. Pretty walk into St Ives for cafes, bars etc and the scenic train journey makes it even easier. Great outdoor decking if the weather allows or cosy lounge if it doesn't!

This was our second time aT Porthia as we love the location and the convenience of being on the major bus routes and close to Carbis Bay train station. The deck and 'back entrance' provide a novel charm to the property and the facilities available are excellent. Cleanliness on arrival and the goods/space provided are what drew us back for the family holiday again this year. Would have booked for next year but the property was fully booked for 2023 and as Orange Roofs provide an excellent standard of property we booked a slightly different venue. We all loved what Porthia provided and the excellent service from Orange Roofs. Great walks and beaches all within a very short walk. Love it.

We loved everything about Porthia. Nestled in the trees, it felt very private and calming. The property was stunning, kept very clean and everything felt accommodated for our family of 4. The private walkway towards the beach created a sense of excitement for our little ones too. The walk to the beach through the woods brings you right onto the stunning Carbis Bay beach which we spent move of our time was really special. Quite a challenge hiking back up the hill although returning to the tranquil Porthia house made it all worth it. Would definitely stay again and recommend it to others! Thank you for a wonderful, truly memorable family holiday

The fact that the property was well maintained, decorated, and furnished to a high standard made our stay thoroughly enjoyable. Pleasantly surprised by the close proximity to St Ives bay and Carbis Bay coastlines and beeches. Will almost certainly book through Orangeroofs again, their service from start to finish was professional and courteous.

We're a family of 5 and this was perfect accommodation for us. Check in was so easy - just used the code to access the key. The house is great. Modern yet tasteful with all mod cons. We stayed in January and it was nonetheless lovely and warm. Roomy lounge/kitchen/diner and large bedrooms. And so reasonably priced. We had very few issues but all communications were replied to pretty much immediately and we got the feeling that if there had been a problem it would have been dealt with quickly and empathetically by Samantha and the team. This really is a great place to stay!

We loved Porthia, it is very homely, light and clean and very well equipped for everything you could need. It felt like we were staying in a tree house, it was such a calming space. There was a lovely Christmas tree and treats on arrival which were gratefully received. This was the first time we have used Orange Roofs, but it won't be the last. Their communication was fantastic, booking was easy and I loved their App. Thank you.

We absolutely loved our stay at Porthia, it felt like home away from home. We cannot fault the accommodation and Orange Roofs were professional and helpful. We will definitely use Orange Roofs again and look forward to yet another amazing holiday in one of the properties. Thank you :)

Porthia is a lovely property- well appointed and comfortable. The limitless hot water was perfect for water babies and surfing babies. The decor and accessories are thoughtful, modern and practical. Beds were super comfy. The outdoor space really made us feel like we were in a tree house- it was private and quiet and we loved the small path alongside the stream. Porthia also represented good value for money and had excellent access to Carbis Bay and the surrounding beaches so you could escape the madness of St Ives! We were well looked after during our stay and the Orange Roofs team were friendly and responsive. Thank you- we hope to be back.

My family really enjoyed our stay at Porthia. The house is modern without being soulless. It feels warm and welcoming. The windows/doors all open wide to bring in the outside. The large trees give welcome shade. There are two seating areas around the house decking so that family and friends could spread out. We loved the sound of the little stream at the back of the garden, and the leafy path that runs all the way down it to Carbis Bay beach (but be ready for an aerobic climb back). The kitchen was very functional. Worth noting that there is no toilet in the main en-suite but otherwise the bathrooms were great. Parking was good (not generally the case in the area), with use of the garage and the space in front of it. There is also a bus stop for easy access to wonderful St Ives, right at the bottom of the short lane (although I never made sense of the timetable). As a base for the area, excellent.

Jan 02 2021

Given that we were supposed to be in the Maldives celebrating Andy's 50th birthday and COVID put paid to that, we began a new 'celebration location' search closer to home.  Our only criteria was that we wanted to be in walking distance to the sea. Just like in the Maldives, right?!  Andy holidayed in St Ives as a child so that seemed a good enough link to start there. After a few nights browsing we came across Orange Roofs and in particular Porthia. I'm a sucker for a fabulous interior photos and these were exactly that - the place looked fabulous. And a short walk to the beautiful beach at Carbis Bay. Following a good read of the excellent reviews (don't worry about the bins) we booked.

On arrival and at the top of the lane sat two welcoming properties reminiscent of upmarket ski chalets. It was dark but the heating was on and the lamps - how thoughtful!  Even more thoughtful though was the bottle of white I found in the fridge. The interior is stunning - clean, modern and scandi - very tasteful. Even a Christmas tree! The kitchen couldn't have been better equipped or cleaner. Same for upstairs - comfy beds and a fab shower! And so many  little extra touches that set it apart from the rest.
We walked miles. So many beaches to explore. Andy and Amelia had a dip in the sea at Porthcurno. I took the photos. We walked to Carbis Bay every night down the steep path to listen to the waves and gaze at the stars. Peaceful, relaxing, perfect.
Communication and instructions from Orange Roofs was second to none. Absolutely fantastic service. And pftt! Who needs the Maldives!

The accomodation was extremely comfortable with high standard of fixtures and fittings, The kids loved the large walk in shower, rear patio was nice the only downside was it was extremely shady due to the large trees at the back whilst this provided privacy when there was a breeze it was a bit chilly to sit outside. Otherwise couldnt fault the property and location , really enjoyed the stay.

When we first drove up to the property via the shared drive, we were a little concerned as the area is a little tired with bins etc stored all up the driveway. However, once we reached the house we were not disappointed. It's tucked away in a very quiet elevated corner with a lovely raised decked rear garden overlooking a small stream. Large bi-fold doors over look this also. The inside of the house is very modern with wood flooring, ample seating on the very large corner sofa, large screen TV with BT Sports and surround sound system. There is a dining table that seats 6 from memory and a very modern well equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and washer/dryer. Upstairs has 2 large bedrooms and one smaller double. The only thing to note is that there is no bath, but 2 showers (which are great). We hired a baby bath for our son from a company recommended to us by Orange Roofs. The Gannet Inn is located 100 yards away and if you fancy a 10 minute stroll, you'll be on Carbis Bay beach with it's Hotel and restaurants. There is also a park just across the road if you have young kids that need a bit of playtime. The attention received from both Orange Roofs and the owners was second to none and we would certainly book again.

This has got to be one of the loveliest houses we have stayed in. It is beautifully presented, extremely comfortable and comes with all the equipment and space we required. It is in a great location - close to St Ives but away from the hustle and bustle and whilst the house is in the middle of Carbis Bay, it is still very private. It is a good base for exploring Cornwall. The beach which is a 5 minute walk (downhill!) away, is a lovely beach, quite sheltered but there are also lots of beachs at St Ives and in the surrounding area. We had a great holiday staying here and would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Cornwall.

Porthia is in a great location, 10 min walk to the train station. Downhill on the way to the station - uphill on the way back. 3 minutes train journey into St Ives. Also within walking distance to Porthia are two excellent restaurants. The property itself is very clean with all mod cons. Parking is easy at the property, up the little lane, we didn't use the garage but parked outside.

Portia is in a great location, well equipped and comfortable. The big windows let in lots of light, but it is still private. Parking is fine for 2 cars, with one in the garage, but the access drive is quite narrow and steep. We had a lovely relaxing time.

A very comfortable and very nicely presented house. Comfy beds and we enjoyed the open plan family living space downstairs. A good location to walk down to Carbis Bay beach and the coastal path and a brisk 10 minute walk back up! St.Ives was very busy but we walked in a few times and the walk is lovely. We also walked in the other direction to a Lelant which was another beautiful walk. Some nice independent cafes and restaurants around a Hayle. Altogether a great family holiday so thank you very much, we would definitely come again!
