St Ives holiday apartment gets a makeover
One of those self-catering holiday homes we have seen transformed from a dated, tired looking holiday apartment is 4 Lyonesse in St Ives. The owners bought the apartment during the pandemic and so had little chance to put their own stamp on it given the demand for St Ives holidays between 2020 and 2022 was incredibly high. 4 Lyonesse has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, it has an open plan living, dining and kitchen area with cracking sea views, reaching as far as Godrevy Lighthouse. The kitchen units were the original ones installed back in the noughties, the bedroom furniture had turned a slightly yellow tinge and the brown leather sofas had seen better days! The owners approached us with much enthusiasm to make improvements to their lovely apartment and so, after sharing what the minimum we would like to happen before it became an Orange Roofs property, the apartment started its transition from an ugly duckling to a graceful swan.

A refreshed look and feel of the twin bedroom
The furniture in the twin room is all John Lewis with bespoke made cushions in French ticking and cable knit.
Take a look at the kitchen transformed by a talented local carpenter
The kitchen was revamped rather than replaced which we love given its sustainability. A local carpenter was employed to use the carcass of the existing kitchen and upgrade it to offer a calming and attractive quality look. The owners replaced crockery with high end items such as Mary Berry and Bloomingville and added a Krups coffee machine. The appliances are Bosch and Neff with Emma Bridgwater pottery placed in the kitchen also. Kitchen units are painted in Farrow and Ball ‘Elephants Breath’.
Beautifully crafted and tastefully equipped
Goodbye Dulux magnolia and hello Farrow and Ball
Imagine beige carpets, yellow walls, not very inspiring artwork and blocky brown leather sofas. That was before!
The light living room has been transformed into a tranquil space filled with bespoke artwork that reflects the natural St Ives scenery. Guests enjoy a calm space where curling up with a book and peering over its pages to take in the views is very easy indeed. The magnolia paint has been replaced with Dulux Egyptian Cotton which carries a soft hue; a perfect complement to the St Ives’ light streaming in. The artists are local to the owners’ own home in Cheshire; Ria Howard and Matt Wilde. The soft furnishings are bought from John Lewis and local shops and the sofa is from French Connection. The dining table and bench is handcrafted in Totnes in Devon and bespoke to 4 Lyonesse. The glass ornamental fish on the wall, reflecting the same blues of the sea, are from local artist Jo Downs.
